Gulf Water Conference (4th)

Water in the Gulf, Challenges of the 21st century
1999-02-13 ~ 1999-02-19 , Manama -> choose Capital Governorate

The 4th Gulf Water Conference marked an important milestone in the ongoing efforts of the Water Sciences and Technology Association to strengthen regional collaboration on water-related challenges in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Building on the association’s mission to promote research, knowledge exchange, and sustainable water practices, the conference convened experts, policymakers, and practitioners to address the growing pressures on limited water resources in an arid and rapidly developing region.

The event provided a platform for discussing critical issues such as water scarcity, increasing demand due to population and economic growth, and the heavy reliance on desalination and groundwater resources. Participants explored innovative approaches in water management, including improving efficiency, enhancing reuse of treated wastewater, and fostering integrated strategies that balance environmental, economic, and technological considerations. These discussions reflected the broader regional need for transforming traditional water management practices into more sustainable and resilient systems.

Through technical sessions, presentations, and collaborative dialogue, the conference reinforced the importance of partnerships among governments, research institutions, and the private sector. It contributed to advancing regional knowledge and capacity in water sciences while supporting long-term goals of sustainability, resource conservation, and improved water security across the GCC.
