Gulf Water Conference (6th)

Water in the GCC… Towards Sustainable Development
2003-03-08 ~ 2003-03-12 , Riyadh

The 6th Gulf Water Conference was a significant regional gathering organized under the Water Sciences and Technology Association (WSTA) to address key water challenges faced by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Experts, policymakers, engineers, and scientists from across the Gulf region came together to assess water resource conditions and explore strategies for sustainable development in an arid and rapidly changing environment. The conference provided a forum for discussing pressing issues such as water scarcity, resource management, and emerging technologies in the water sector.

Participants engaged in technical sessions and collaborative discussions that examined state‑of‑the‑art techniques, policy frameworks, and practical solutions to improve water sustainability. A strong emphasis was placed on enhancing coordination among academics, practitioners, and decision‑makers, as well as on promoting greater use of desalinated water and treated wastewater in sectors such as agriculture and industry. The conference reflected the region’s commitment to balancing water use with long‑term environmental and economic sustainability.

By fostering dialogue and partnership among a wide range of stakeholders, the 6th Gulf Water Conference helped advance collective understanding of water resource challenges in the Gulf region. It reinforced the importance of research, innovation, and integrated water management strategies, contributing to ongoing efforts aimed at achieving resilient and efficient water systems for the future.
