Gulf Water Conference (7th)

Water in the GCC- Towards an Integrated Water Resources Management
2005-11-19 ~ 2005-11-23 , Kuwait City

The 7th Gulf Water Conference was held in Kuwait from 19 – 23 November 2005, convening water sector professionals, researchers, engineers, and policymakers from across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region to address critical challenges in water resource management. Organized by the Water Sciences and Technology Association (WSTA), the conference focused on advancing integrated approaches to managing limited freshwater resources in one of the world’s most water‑scarce regions. The event emphasized the need for collaborative strategies that enhance sustainable water supply and efficient resource use amid rapid population growth and environmental pressures.

During the conference, participants engaged in technical sessions, presentations, and discussions on diverse topics such as integrated water resources management, the role of innovative technologies, and policy measures to support resilient water systems. By bringing together regional experts and stakeholders, the forum provided a platform for sharing best practices and lessons learned, fostering dialogue that could guide future water planning and decision‑making.

As a significant milestone in the WSTA’s series of Gulf Water Conferences, the 7th edition played an important role in shaping ongoing efforts toward effective, cooperative water management across the GCC. It helped strengthen regional networks and reinforced the importance of combining scientific research with practical policy frameworks to meet long‑term water sustainability goals.
